An online dialogue was initiated to engage tourism SMEs from Cross-Re-Tour’s eight partner countries in sharing their challenges, knowledge gaps, and experiences. This dialogue took place on the platform adhocracy+ from January to May 2024, focusing on challenges related to water, energy, furniture/equipment, food, plastic and transportation as well as client and staff nudging. Key issues reported included high costs, regulatory hurdles, and limited sustainable options. Broader concerns like digital literacy and compliance were also discussed. Recommendations called for better regulations, increased investment in sustainable technology, and expanded educational programs. After the dialogue concluded, each partner country summarized the identified challenges and knowledge gaps, and these findings were compiled into a “Report on Tourism SME Knowledge Gaps Regarding the Twin Transition”, which you can find below.
